Arizona State University test RA and OA arthritis patients with OLIVENOL

Clinical Study:

PHOENIXA scientific human study underway at the Arizona Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) is investigating the effects of Olivenol® on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA).

Approximately 100 RA and OA patients will be involved in the eight-week study, which will test whether Olivenol can increase mobility and minimize pain by decreasing swelling of the joints and inflammation of the surrounding muscles, tendons and tissues.

CreAgri Inc. is the primary sponsor of the study, and is supplying Olivenol, which contains the active ingredient HIDROX, a rich source of the antioxidant hydroxytyrosol. “We are very pleased and excited by this collaboration with ASU and the Arizona Biodesign Institute,” said Roberto Crea, founder and chief executive officer of CreAgri. “The results of this study could influence the medical community to review Olivenol, and its active ingredient HIDROX, as a potential safe and effective treatment to alleviate the symptoms of RA and OA. It may serve as an alternative or a complement to drugs that are more expensive and have numerous side effects.”

Extra-Virgin Olive Oil Helps Heal Arthritis

Extra-Virgin Olive Oil Helps Heal Arthritis

Cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) is delicious in pesto, salad dressings and as a dipping sauce for artisan bread. People in Mediterranean cultures have been enjoying it for centuries, and they are among the healthiest people on the planet. Science now tells us why. Olive oil has a rich supply of polyphenols, powerful antioxidants also found in green tea and red wine. Polyphenols block oxidative damage to cells created by free radical molecules, which accelerates aging and the degeneration of joint tissue. EVOO is also one of Nature’s best sources of oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol, two antioxidants that significantly reduce other inflammatory chemicals in the body.

1. EVOO beats Ibuprofen for pain relief. Here’s more great news for easing arthritis pain. Research shows 50 milliliters of EVOO (about 3-1/2 tablespoons) produce the same pain-relieving effect in your joints as a 200-mg tablet of ibuprofen. But don’t overdo it. Two tablespoons at a time produces optimal health benefits.

2. Only buy cold-pressed “extra-virgin” olive oil. To get maximum health benefits from olive oil, buy the freshest, least processed olive oil you can find — that means cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil in small quantities in a dark bottle, which you keep tightly capped, out of the light, and cool. EVOO is highest in oleocanthol, which blocks the production of inflammatory COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes in the same way that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) do — without the side-effects. Inhibiting these enzymes decreases inflammation and joint pain.
